Welcome to The Swap Shop!
What is the Swap Shop? We all have yarns in our personal collections that we no longer love. Maybe the color is wrong, or you didn’t buy enough or it was that neon speckled impulse buy at the last fiber festival. Whatever the reason, we’re here to help you re-home that yarn!
What you do:
1. Go through your stash and find yarns that you would like to swap
2. Package the yarn and set your price (see below) You drop off your packages at Hook & Needle Tuesday, June 30 – Sunday, July 12
3. We sell your yarn at the Swap Shop July 23-26. Sunday, July 26 any remaining swap bags will go to 50% off.
4. You get store credit (minus 20%*) for what you sell. We donate the yarn that doesn’t sell to local charities. Your store credit will be good until 12/31/26.
- The 20% is the 'Keep the Lights On in the Shop' fee or Administrative fee...however you like to look at it.
Bagging Up Your Yarns
1. Place yarns in clear 1-gallon or 2-gallon sized Ziplock bags. Place an index card into each bag with the following information: Yarn brand and name (if not labeled), fiber content (i.e., 75% super wash wool, 25% nylon), number of yards/grams (if known), your sale price.
2. The minimum price for any bag must be $2 and must be in whole dollars (no
cents).
3. Bags must securely close. Any bags that won’t close will be donated.
4. Drop off your packages at the shop during store hours from Tuesday, June 30 –
Sunday, July 12. Please do NOT put your name on the cards – we
will assign a bar code to each package for you so that you receive credit for the sale. Plus, no one needs to know the size of your 'stash'.
5. Please place all packages in trash bags that are labeled with your name
and phone number. Do not bring your yarns in plastic containers or boxes.
6. Yarn only - no needles or project bags.
7. There is NO limit to the number of packages you can include in the sale! Declutter that stash.
Pricing Tips
1. Price your yarns to sell!
2. A good starting point is 50% of the original retail price.
3. Place different colors of the same base or brand together. More yardage = more
likely to sell.
4. If you remember what project or type of project you were going to use the yarn
for, you can include that information on the index card.
5. All unsold yarns will be donated. We WILL NOT be returning any unsold yarns. For this
reason, please price your yarns competitively.
Charitable Donations
We will donate all unsold yarns to local charities like Haven House and Crochet for
Cancer. All unsold yarns will be donated. We will not return yarns.
Get excited for the sale! We all are! The staff here know all about ‘collecting’ yarns.
We will all be participating. Cristi already has quite a few packages put together – she
has an incredible stash that she is going to include in the sale. We are hoping for a BIG
turnout and The Studio will turn into The Swap Shop for 4 WHOLE days! We can’t wait to see what you bring!
This is great way try out some different and interesting yarns at a huge discount!
